Processing–collectedvaluesareusedtopopulatethefinalreportdimensionsaccordingtoaprocessinglogic. Reporting–campaignandtraffic-sourcedimensionsandmetricsbecomeavailableinthewebinterfaceandReportingAPI. Collection,processing,andreportingbehaviorcanbecustomized. Processing Duringprocessing,traffic-sourceandcampaign fieldvaluesarefinalizedintodimensionvaluesandattributedtosessions. Thefollowingmethod applies toprocessingthatusesutm_parametervalues(e.g.,display,social,email,paidsearch,etc.). Sourceprecedence—Adirect-trafficvisitthatfollowsareferredvisitwillneveroverrideanexistingreferrer. Processingcustomcampaigns Asessionisprocessedasacustomcampaignwhencustomcampaignparametersareembeddedinthedocumentlocationfield.Whenacustomcampaignisprocessed,thevaluesofthecustom-campaignparametersmapdirectlytothedimensionsinreports. Processingorganicsearch-enginereferrals Search-enginereferraldataisprocessedbycomparingthehostnameandqueryparameterofthedocumentreferrerfieldtoalistofknownsearchenginesandtheirqueryparameters.Thefirstknownsearchenginethatmatchesboththehostnameandqueryparameterofthedocumentreferrervalueisusedtosetthereportdimensionvalues. NotethatmostGooglesearchesareperformedviaHTTPS,whichcausesthekeyworddimensiontoautomaticallybesetto(notprovided).
