Cognitivepsychologysaysthatmeaningfullearningisaboutmakingconnectionsbetweenwhatlearnersalreadyknowandnewinformationthatwe’dlikelearnerstoknow. Inotherwords,weneedtohelplearnerstoactivatewhattheyalreadyknowaboutwhatwearegoingtobeteachingasnewinformation. Inthiswaywecanhelpthemtoaddthenewinformationtotheiralreadyexistingknowledgeschemesratherthanaskthemtocreatewholenewknowledgeschemes. Anotherpartofourworkistohelptoshowlearnerswhattheydon’tknowandtherebycreateacognitivedisequilibrium,whichwillleadtointrinsicmotivationorthedrivetolearn. Ithinkalotofteachersdothiswithoutthinkingaboutit,butthereareclearlystrategiesthatwecanusetohelptomakelearning‘meaningful’.
