Axéisnotexactlyaboutastyleormusicalmovement,butratheraboutausefulbrandnamegiventoartistsfromSalvadorwhomademusicuponnortheasternBrazilian,Caribbean,andAfricanrhythmswithapop-rocktwist,whichhelpedthemtakeovertheBrazilianhitparadessince1992.AxéisaritualgreetingusedinCandombléandUmbandareligions,andmeans"goodvibration."ThewordmusicwasattachedtoAxé,usedasslangwithinthelocalmusicbiz,byajournalistwhointendedtocreateaderogatorytermforthepretentiousdance-drivenstyle.
