Onemid-sizedsuburbanschooldistrictfromtheMidwestwasselectedforthiscasestudyresearch.Elevenschoolbuildingadministratorswereinterviewedtoprovideinsightintotheresearchquestions.Participantsinthestudyself-selectedpseudonymstopreserveanonymity.Interviewswereconductedfacetoface,andthentranscribed. Thethemesthatemergedfromtheinterviewsinclude:(1)participants'perceptionsofandexperienceswithcollectingandanalyzingstudentbehaviordata,(2)participants'perceptionsofandexperienceswithusingbehaviordatatoimprovestudentsuccessinschoolandinsociety,and(3)participants'perceptionsofnecessarystepstotaketoenhancetheeffectivenessoftheircurrenteffortstoimprovestudents'successinschoolandsociety.Thefindingsfromthisstudydescribepracticesusedforcollectingstudentattendancedata,officereferraldata,andsuspensionandexpulsiondata.Building-levelschoolleadersrecognizethatdatacollectionandanalysisofbuilding-andschooldistrict-levelconductand/orbehaviordatawouldhelpthemestablishpatternsofbehaviorforindividualstudents,aswellasstudentsthroughoutthebuilding.Theaimforschooladministratorsshouldbetouseresearch-basedstrategies,practices,andprogramsthathaveprovensuccessfulwhentheyplaninterventionsandprogrammaticchangesforstudents. Basedonitsfindings,thisstudyrecommendsthatfurtherinvestigationintodatacollectionprocessesthatleadtoimprovedbehavioraloutcomesforstudentsbeconducted.Consistentdatacollection,supportedbyasystemicproceduretoanalyzethatdata,isparamounttoincreasetheeffectivenessofanybehaviorsupportprogram.Asschoolscontinuetofacechallengesassociatedwithprovidingadequatebehavioralsupportsforstudents,buildingcapacitywithteachingandadministrativestaffisrecommended,sothatacontinuumofbehavioralsupportscouldbeprovidedtomeetthediversebehavioralneedsofbuildings,schools,anddistricts.
