Thedepartmentoffersavarietyofdifferentmajors: 6-1:ElectricalScienceandEngineering6-2:ElectricalEngineeringandComputerScience6-3:ComputerScienceandEngineering6-4:ArtificialIntelligenceandDecisionMaking6-7:ComputerScienceandMolecularBiology6-14:ComputerScience,Economics,andDataScience Studentscanalsomajorin6-9:ComputationandCognition(administeredbytheDepartmentofBrainandCognitiveSciences)or11-6:UrbanScienceandPlanningwithComputerScience(administeredbytheDepartmentofUrbanStudiesandPlanning) CurriculumOverview ThemajorityofEECSmajorsbeginwithachoiceofanintroductorysubject,exploringelectricalengineeringandcomputersciencefundamentalsbyworkingonsuchconcretesystemsasrobots,cellphonenetworks,medicaldevices,etc. Studentsgainunderstanding,competence,andmaturitybyadvancingstep-by-stepthroughsubjectsofgreaterandgreatercomplexity: Foundationsubjects builddepthandbreadthinareasrangingfromcircuitsandelectronicstoappliedelectromagneticsandfromprinciplesofsoftwaredevelopmenttosignalsandsystems.Studentsmusttakethreeorfour,dependingontheirmajor.Headersubjects providemasterywithinEECS’ssubdisciplines:microelectronicdevicesandcircuits;communication,controlandsignalprocessing;bioelectricalscienceandengineering;computersystemsengineering;designandanalysisofalgorithms;andartificialintelligence.Studentsmusttakeatleastthreeheadersubjectsandonelab.Advancedundergraduatesubjectsenablestudentstotargettheirdegreeprogramtowardin-depthmasteryofareasmatchingtheirspecificinterests. Twoadvancedsubjectsarerequired. Throughouttheundergraduateyears,laboratorysubjects,teamwork,independentprojects,andresearchengagestudentswithprinciplesandtechniquesofanalysis,design,andexperimentationinavarietyofEECSareas.Thedepartmentalsooffersnumerousprogramsthatenablestudentstogainpracticalexperience,rangingfromcollaborativeindustrialprojectsdoneoncampustoterm-longexperiencesatpartnercompanies.
