Allmassflowcontrollershaveaninletport,anoutletport,amassflowsensorandaproportionalcontrolvalve.TheMFCisfittedwithaclosedloopcontrolsystemwhichisgivenaninputsignalbytheoperator(oranexternalcircuit/computer)thatitcomparestothevaluefromthemassflowsensorandadjuststheproportionalvalveaccordinglytoachievetherequiredflow.TheflowrateisspecifiedasapercentageofitscalibratedfullscaleflowandissuppliedtotheMFCasavoltagesignal.
