Theweavingtechniqueusedforthiscollectionisaninterleavednetworkdraftingtechniquethatallowstwocurvestoberepresentedwithinasinglelayerofcloth. Thetechnique,referredtoasMoiré,isdescribedbyMarianStubenitskyinherbookWeavingwithEchoandIris.Thefollowingnotesgiveabasicideaofthetechniquebutarenotintendedtobeatutorial.NetworkdraftingTogettogripswiththetechniqueyoufirstneedtounderstandthesimplernetworkdraftingtechniqueusedtorepresentasinglecurve,orindeedanyotherline. Thecurveisdrawnontoagrid.Iamusing16shafts,soI’mmakinglifeeasybyusingagridsixteensquareshigh. Ratherthanusingthisdirectlyasthethreadingsequenceforthewarp,thecurveisthenmappedontoanetwork.ThenetworkIamusingisbasedona1/3twill. Ona16-shiftloomthisnetworkmeansthatwarpend1mustbeonshaft1,5,9or13warpend2onshaft2,6,10or14warpend3onshaft3,7,11or15warpend4onshaft4,8,12or16warpend5onshaft1,5,9or13… Sotheresultingthreadingsequencewouldlooklikethis: MoiréThistechniqueusesthesameideabutwithtwocurvesontwonetworks Thesecondcurveisalsomappedontoanetwork,butthisnetworkisoffsetfromthepreviousone(thisensuresthatyounevergettwoadjacentwarpendsonthesameshaft).Here,warpend1mustbeonshaft3,7,11or15. Asecondcurveisdrawn... ...andmappedontothissecondnetwork Thetwomappedcurvesaretheninterleavedtocreatethethreadingsequenceforthewarp. Thesamesequenceisusedfortheorderofliftsduringweaving,withthe16rowsofthedobbysetasshownbelow. Myintentioninthisprojectistoshowsomeofthedifferentpossibleinteractionsbetweentwosinewaves,soIhaveusedthesamenetworkdraftingapproachthroughout.Therearelotsofothervariationstobeexplored,havealookatabooksuchasMarianStubenitsky'sandgetinspired.
