BiologicalandMedicalDevicesandSystems Wedevelopthetechnologyandsystemsthatwilltransformthefutureofbiologyandhealthcare.Specificareasincludebiomedicalsensorsandelectronics,nano-andmicro-technologies,imaging,andcomputationalmodelingofdisease. CommunicationsSystems Wedevelopthenextgenerationofwiredandwirelesscommunicationssystems,fromnewphysical principles(e.g.,light,terahertzwaves)tocodingandinformationtheory,andeverythinginbetween. ComputerArchitecture Wedesignthenextgenerationofcomputersystems.Workingattheintersectionofhardwareandsoftware,ourresearchstudieshowtobestimplementcomputationinthephysicalworld.Wedesignprocessorsthatarefaster,moreefficient,easiertoprogram,andsecure.Ourresearchcoverssystemsofallscales,fromtinyInternet-of-Thingsdeviceswithultra-low-powerconsumptiontohigh-performanceserversanddatacentersthatpowerplanet-scaleonlineservices.Wedesignbothgeneral-purposeprocessorsandacceleratorsthatarespecializedtoparticularapplicationdomains,likemachinelearningandstorage.WealsodesignElectronicDesignAutomation(EDA)toolstofacilitatethedevelopmentofsuchsystems. ComputationalFabricationandManufacturing Webringsomeofthemostpowerfultoolsincomputationtobearondesignproblems,includingmodeling,simulation,processingandfabrication. SignalProcessing Signalprocessingfocusesonalgorithmsandhardwareforanalyzing,modifyingandsynthesizingsignalsanddata,acrossawidevarietyofapplicationdomains.Asatechnologyitplaysakeyroleinvirtuallyeveryaspectofmodernlifeincludingforexampleentertainment,communications,travel,health,defenseandfinance.
