Thisyear,CIEIhasbeenfortunateenoughtobecomeaccreditedbytheCollegeofTeachers.Wesoughtthislevelofofficialrecognitionfirstofallbecauseweknewourcourseswereworthyofit.Secondly,wedesireourcoursestobeofthehighestqualityandbelongingtoaninstitutionsuchastheCollegeofTeachersvalidatesthatfact.Moreimportantly,though,wegainedthisaccreditationforourstudents.Theyworkveryhardtofinishourcoursesandacquireasmuchknowledgeastheycanfromus;theythereforedeserveawell-respectednametoaddtotheiraccomplishments.Havingacertificationfrom,orhavingcompletedaclassaffiliatedwith,anamesuchastheCollegeofTeachersisaprestigiousaccomplishmentforourstudents.Thisissomethingtheycanshowemployersinthefutureanditwillberecognizedandrevered. ThestaffofCIEIisespeciallypassionateaboutobtainingthiswell-knownaccreditationbecausetheypersonallyhaveseentheneedintheircountry.Theeducationsystemhereisquitetraditional,andconsequentlythestudentsendupbeingabletoaccesstheirreceptiveskillswithmuchhighereasethantheirproductiveskills.Inaddition,themodeoflearningtowhichtheyareaccustomedisquietandpassive.Forourstudentswhowanttostudyabroad,theyyearntobemorecomfortablyactiveinaclassinpreparationforincreasedexpectationofclassparticipationanddiverseteachingstyles.Forourpupilswhoarealreadyteachingorwanttobecometeachers,theyseethelackofvariedmethodologiesintheclassroomandwanttomakelearningmorefun,andthereforemoreeffective,fortheirownstudents. ThemajorityofourstudentsarecurrentlyTaiwanese.TheyseekourcoursestostrengthentheirCVandimprovetheirfuture.Wedohopetoextendourteacher-traineepopulationtoincludenativespeakersofEnglishaswell.TheTESOLCertificateisdesignedforbothnativeandnon-nativeteachers,butwebelievethatallwouldbenefitfromexperiencingdiverseperspectivestoteachingandlearning,leadingtoanevenbetterandbroaderclassexperience.ThereisahugequantityofnativeEnglishspeakingteachersinTaiwan,andmanyhavenocertificationortraining.Withtheomnipresentschoolsforchildrenandadultshere,wefeelthatofferingtheonlyvalidcertificationwouldnotonlyhelpourschoolandourstudents,butalsotheamazingnumberofpeoplewhostudyEnglishinthiscountry.
