Therevisioncoversalltheupdatestotherestrictionsforchemicalsubstancespublishedin: BSSL(bluesignSYSTEMSUBSTANCESLIST); BSBL(bluesignSYSTEMBLACKLIMITS);and bluesignRSL. ThebluesignSYSTEMSUBSTANCESLIST(BSSL)specifieslimitsforchemicalsubstancesinarticles(consumersafetylimits). ThebluesignSYSTEMBLACKLIMITS(BSBL)specifiesthresholdlimitsforchemicalsubstancesinfinishedchemicalproductssuchasauxiliariesordyes.ThecompilationofsubstancesintheBSBLincludesallsubstancesforwhichaprecautionaryhazard-basedthresholdlimitisdefined. ThebluesignRSLisanextractoftheBSSLandcontainsconsumersafetylimitsandrecommendedtestingmethodsforthemostimportantandlegallyrestrictedsubstancesintextileandleatherarticlesandaccessories. 2021revisionofBSBL,BSSL,andRSLcameintoeffectonJuly1st,2021.ThefollowingrevisedlistsaswellasthedocumentsregardingtherelevantchangestosubstancesandlimitsarepubliclyavailableonBluesignwebsite: BSBLv3.0; BSSLv12.0; bluesign®RSLv12.0; BSBLv3.0–Changes2021; BSSLv12.0–Changes2021;and bluesign®RSLv12.0–Changes2021. 2021revisionsincludethefollowingupdates: Restrictionforfreeanilinecontentinchemicalproductshavebecomemorestringent.Anilinereducedindigoisnowamustforbluesign®APPROVEDindigotypes.Anilineisrestrictedinotherdyesandauxiliarieswithalimitof500mg/kg. FollowingtheBluesignphilosophythatresidualmonomersplayaveryimportantroleineliminatinghazardouschemicalsinthetextilesupplychain,ausagebanwasdefinedforN-methylolacrylamideand1-vinylimidazole. For2-pyrrolidone,asolventusedininks,aconsumersafetylimitwasdefined.Themid-termgoalistodefineausagebanforthissolventwhichhastobeclassifiedastoxicforreproductionaccordingtorecentstudies. Forsimilarreasons,2-ButanoneoximewhichisclassifiedasacarcinogenicsubstanceandalreadylistedonBSSL—consumersafetylimits,isnowundermorestringentobservationbyBluesign.Thefreecontentofthissubstancewhichisusedasablockingagentforpolyurethanes,isnowlimitedinchemicalproducts.AtotalusagebanofthissubstanceasablockingagentisplannedbyBluesign. TherevisedBSBLisvalidforallnewbluesignFINDERregistrationsfromJuly1st,2021.ForalreadyexistingbluesignAPPROVEDchemicals,atransitionperioduntilJuly1,2022isvalidtocomplywiththerevisedsections. AsasupportforallbluesignSYSTEMPARTNERcompanies,alongwiththeRSL,atestingmatrixtobeusedasaguideforappropriatetestingofarticlessuchastextilesisalsoavailableintemplateformatinbluesignCUBE.
